Giving back and supporting the community is extremely important to Rod 'N' Reel Resort as part of our mission statement states,
"We respect our relationship with each other, our guests, our neighbors and our community."
Rod 'N' Reel Gives Back strives to uplift and serve the community that gives so much to us. Below are some ways in which we serve the community.
We are doing our part to clean the bay! We have three oyster beds located on Charter Boat Row by 1936 Bar & Grill. To take care of the oyster beds we flip them monthly, make sure there are no crabs trying to eat the oyster and clean up any litter near the beds. We will be able to release the current oysters on local sand bars in the summer months.
Several times a year we clean up litter on the road through Adopt a Highway.
Once a month, we visit the seniors at Calvert County Nursing Center and host their birthday party. The Rod 'N' Reel Gives Back team provides bingo, prizes, cake and goody bags for the seniors to enjoy. We look forward to celebrating their birthdays and seeing their familiar faces each month!
Supporting local farmers, our restaurants offer farm to table specials with ingredients from local farms. Ingredients and dishes vary from month to month to provide in season items to our guests. Currently, we are working with PA Bowen Farmstead and Miller Farms in Brandywine, MD.
Rod 'N' Reel Gives Back donates to various charities to support their fundraising efforts. These charities include, but are not limited to: Calvert County Schools, Calvert Hospice, Calvert Health, NAACP, Humane Society of Calvert County, local sports clubs, and more.
Representatives from Rod 'N' Reel Resort are members of various committees throughout the town of Chesapeake Beach. These committees include: the Green Team, Walkability Team and Opiod Awareness Team.
Supporting Wreaths Across America, we will be removing wreaths at Cheltenham. While many volunteers go to lay the wreaths, which we have done in the past as well, there usually aren't as many volunteers to remove those wreaths after the holiday season.
We sponsor many sports teams in our communities as well as as contribute to various silent auctions. You pick the date and invite the people and we'll give a portion of sales to your organization!
We held our First Annual Butterfly Fun-K Walk honoring Gerald W. Donovan in October 2022. All proceeds from this event are donated to Calvert Hospice, who helped us so much during the end of Gerald's life. In 2022, we were able to raise over $5,300!
On Christmas Eve, 1936 Bar & Grill delivers a hot meal wrapped in a Christmas box to our first responders on duty! We are able to deliver to about seven first responder locations throughout Calvert County.
